For most of us who are classic car fans, restorers or collectors, we try to keep our pride and joy looking and running as similar to how it was in its time as possible. This is why our customers look for high quality classic car restoration, to get the vehicle looking as good as – or better than is was when it left the factory the first time.

When it comes to fuel, however, things get a bit trickier. If you are never planning on driving your vintage vehicle, you needn`t worry, but most people like to show off their classic car, and for that, we need fuel. As rules about the fuel that can be used has been changed over the years, this can become a problem for classic car drivers. It is unlikely that the fuel that once powered your classic car is still available – there have been many changes to fuel since cars first hit the roads of Britain.

The Differences

Some of the differences that we have seen in fuel since the beginning of car time include:

The loss of two-star petrol in 1989-1990
The end of lead petrol at the end of the 20^th Century
The significant increase in the amount of volatile components in petrol
The rising use of ethanol in petrol now and in the future

It is impossible to expect an engine built almost 100 years ago to be able to use modern fuel, so if you are on the road and need to fill up, what do you do?
