With the time and money that we spend on getting our classic cars in perfect shape – the blast cleaning, paint work, engine fine tuning and other restoration work that is carried out, as well as the overall desirability of a perfect vintage vehicle, can make them a real target for thieves.
Whether people are looking to steal the vehicle to sell on as it is, or to take potentially expensive parts out to sell separately, classic car theft can be a real problem. It is therefore essential that owners know how to properly protect their car, and of course make it easy to identify should the worse happen.
SelectDNA Classic Car Kit
One solution which has been suggested by the Central Motorway Police Group from the West Midlands Police is their SelectDNA Classic Car kit. The kit can be used to add a unique identity to car parts such as wheels and tyres, doors or engine parts.
The kit includes a forensic marking fluid which contains microdots which have a unique reference number on them. If the vehicle – or part of the vehicle is stolen and then recovered, the microdots can be read – with the help of a microscope and the vehicle identified. – and then returned to its rightful owner.
In addition, if the microdots cannot be found, the fluid is also entirely unique, which has a synthetic DNA code, meaning that the vehicle can be identified using this method as well.
It is important for classic car owners to be able to suitably protect our cars, and the SelectDNA Classic Car kit is a great way to be able to successfully identify their car`s parts should they be stolen.
